  • Most repairs that don't require replacement parts are completed within 2–3 business days, including many software-related repairs, updates, and cleanups.

If parts need to be ordered, turnaround is typically 5–7 business days. We'll discuss the required parts, cost, and expected timeframe before moving forward. Specialty parts can occasionally take longer, but you'll always be informed upfront.

  • All repairs are handled by appointment, but scheduling is easy. Simply call or text us with a brief description of the problem, and we'll arrange a convenient drop-off time.

  • DescrNo. Tarheel Technologies never charges a diagnostic fee.

We'll examine your computer, determine the likely problem, and give you our best recommendation at no cost to you. If necessary, we'll even disassemble the computer as part of the diagnosis.

If you decide not to proceed, you owe us $0, and your computer will be returned in the same condition in which it was received.iption text goes here

  • Just about everything! We service laptops and desktops of virtually all major brands and models, including machines running Windows, Linux, Google ChromeOS, Apple macOS, Android, and more.

Common repairs include no-power issues, broken screens, charging problems, damaged keyboards, missing keys, broken hinges, overheating, loud or failing fans, boot problems, slow or freezing computers, viruses and malware, drive failures, and many other hardware and software problems.

  • Absolutely—and in many cases, that's exactly what we recommend.

Many otherwise excellent computers can gain years of additional useful life through affordable upgrades such as additional RAM, faster SSD storage, or other hardware improvements.

We'll evaluate what you have and help determine whether upgrading or replacing makes the most financial sense. Our goal is to recommend what's best for you—not simply sell you another computer.

  • Protecting your data is one of our first priorities. Before beginning repairs that could affect your files, we'll evaluate the computer's storage drive and determine whether your data can be safely retrieved.

We're able to recover and protect customer data before repairs in approximately 95% of the cases we encounter. If your data cannot be safely retrieved, we'll tell you before proceeding with any repair that could put it at risk.

  • Absolutely. There are no surprise repair bills.

Before beginning a repair, we'll explain the expected work and cost and get your approval. If we discover something that changes the repair or increases the price, we stop and contact you before doing anything further.

You decide whether to proceed. If you don't, we'll stop there—you won't receive a bill for work you never authorized.

  • Most computers we evaluate are worth repairing, and it's relatively rare that we recommend replacement simply because something has failed.

When a repair may approach or exceed the computer's value, we'll explain the problem, what the repair would involve, and the cost. We'll also explain reasonable replacement options when appropriate so you can compare your choices. The final decision is always yours.

  • Tarheel Technologies primarily sells new computers, but we're proud to have gotten our start repairing and selling quality used machines.

We still occasionally offer used and professionally refurbished computers when the right machines become available. Their condition will always be clearly identified in the listing—no surprises.

Used and refurbished machines sold by Tarheel Technologies are also backed by a hardware warranty, unless explicitly stated otherwise.

  • Every laptop includes its power adapter, and unless otherwise stated, our desktop computers are sold as complete setups—including the tower, monitor, keyboard, mouse, power cables, and necessary monitor cables.

Every computer also comes with the latest version of Windows 11, fully updated as of the date of sale.

We also include an excellent software package to help get you up and running from day one. Ask us for details about the software included with your computer.

  • DescriYes. Every computer sold by Tarheel Technologies includes a hardware warranty unless explicitly stated otherwise.

Warranty length varies depending on the machine, and we also offer the option to purchase extended warranty coverage. Ask us about the warranty and extended coverage available for the computer you're considering.

Before any machine is offered for sale, it is thoroughly inspected and tested to ensure everything is performing as it should. We go through our computers with a fine-tooth comb because we want every purchase to be a reliable, long-lasting investment.ption text goes here

  • Absolutely. In fact, that's usually where we start.

We'll ask what you use your computer for, what your typical day-to-day workload looks like, and what's most important to you. From there, we'll help determine the specifications and type of computer that make the most sense.

Our goal isn't to sell you the most expensive machine we can—it's to find you a computer that does everything you need while saving you as much money as possible.

  • In some cases, yes.

If you have a computer that Tarheel Technologies believes can still be repaired, refurbished, or otherwise put to good use, we may offer you a trade-in value toward the purchase of another computer.

We don't typically purchase used computers outright, and trade-in availability and value depend on the individual machine, its specifications, age, and condition. If you've got something you'd like to trade, just ask—we're happy to take a look.

  • Item dAbsolutely. Tarheel Technologies can help move your important files and data from your old computer to your new one, making the transition as easy as possible.

Data-transfer service starts at just $50, with the final cost depending on the amount and complexity of the data being transferred.

With certain higher-tier computer purchases, data transfer may even be included at no additional charge. Ask us when purchasing your computer and we'll let you know what applies.escription

  • That's actually one of our specialties.

Tarheel Technologies specializes in finding customers the exact computers they're looking for at prices that won't break the bank. If we don't currently have the right machine in inventory, talk to us about what you want, your budget, and the features that matter to you.

We'll help you explore available options and, when possible, locate a machine specifically for you.

  • Because with Tarheel Technologies, you're not just buying a computer—you're gaining someone you can actually call when you need help.

We genuinely care about our customers, and one of our biggest goals is helping people get quality computers without spending more than they need to. We work hard to offer excellent machines at prices that can often be significantly less than traditional retail.

Most importantly, the relationship doesn't end when you buy the computer. You'll have a real, local person you can reach out to with questions, concerns, or support needs after the sale.

Quality computers. Fair prices. Real support. Customers first.

  • Tarheel Technologies can build a custom desktop from the empty case up, selecting the components around your needs, preferences, and budget. That can include everything from performance hardware to custom cases, lighting, cooling, storage, and other personalized features.

We can also customize and upgrade laptops when their hardware and manufacturer specifications allow it.

  • Start by submitting what you're looking for through our Build My Perfect PC page. We'll review your request, discuss any questions or recommendations with you, and provide an estimate before you commit to anything.

Once you approve the order, the required deposit is paid and we'll begin ordering the computer, components, or upgrades. The remaining balance isn't due until your computer is completed and ready for you.

For upgrades to a computer you already own, the cost of any specially ordered parts is paid upfront, while the agreed-upon labor is due when the completed computer is picked up.

  • Yes. Custom computers and special-order machines require a 50% deposit before the order is placed.

If you're purchasing one of our computers but requesting additional upgrades or specially ordered components, the cost of those additional parts is due upfront, with the remaining balance due when the completed machine is ready.

For upgrades to a computer you already own, specially ordered parts are also paid for upfront, while labor is due upon completion.

  • Absolutely. That's the whole point of a special order!

Tell us what you're looking for—from a particular brand, color or screen size to touchscreen capability, storage, memory, processor, graphics, or other features—and we'll work to find the closest possible match.

Availability can vary, of course, but if it's out there, there's a good chance we can find it.

  • Most custom computers and special orders are completed within approximately 5–10 business days.

Timing can vary depending on the computer, parts, availability, and complexity of the build. You'll be given an expected timeframe before placing your order, and we'll keep you informed if anything changes along the way.

  • Absolutely.

If you find a computer in our inventory that you love but want more RAM, additional storage, a larger SSD, or another compatible upgrade, talk to us before purchasing it.

As long as the machine supports the requested upgrade, we can provide the additional cost and complete the customization before you receive your computer. The cost of specially ordered upgrade parts is due upfront.

  • Absolutely—and this is one of our specialties.

You don't need to know exactly which processor, amount of RAM, graphics card, or other components you need. Tell us what you want the computer to do and what you'd like to spend, and we'll work from there.

We have numerous industry resources for finding quality components at competitive prices and will work to get you the best machine possible for your budget.

Of course, every budget has realistic limits—but we'll be upfront about what's possible and help you get the most for your money.

  • Because custom and special-order computers and components are purchased specifically for you, deposits become non-refundable once the order has been placed.

If you decide not to complete the original purchase, your deposit ordinarily cannot be refunded. However, Tarheel Technologies may allow the deposit to be transferred toward another computer currently in our inventory, depending on the circumstances.

If we're unable to fulfill the agreed-upon order for a reason on our end, we'll work with you to make it right.

  • Tarheel Technologies currently accepts cash, PayPal, Venmo, and Cash App.

Additional payment options may be added in the future. If you have questions about payment before a purchase or service, just ask.

  • Yes. We offer convenient 3- or 4-payment plans on qualifying computer purchases.

The total purchase price is divided into equal payments with agreed-upon payment dates. Payment plans are subject to specific terms and an agreement, and the computer remains with Tarheel Technologies until the balance has been paid in full.

Ask us for more information about available payment-plan options.

  • Absolutely. Tarheel Technologies accepts a wide variety of unwanted computers, electronics, and computer components for recycling and responsible disposal.

This includes laptops, desktops, motherboards, hard drives and SSDs, memory, optical drives, screens, batteries, cables, keyboards, mice, and many other computer-related components.

Whether you're cleaning out a closet or replacing an office full of older equipment, talk to us before throwing it away.

  • Yes. Local e-scrap pickups and larger equipment cleanouts can be arranged depending on the location, quantity, and type of equipment involved.

We regularly work with individuals, businesses, churches, schools, offices, and other organizations looking for an easy way to clear out unwanted computer equipment.

For larger cleanouts or significant quantities of equipment, pickup may also be available outside our immediate local area. Contact us with what you have and where you're located, and we'll let you know what options are available.

  • Item descriptionTarheel Technologies primarily services laptop and desktop computers of virtually every major brand and model, including systems running Windows, Linux, ChromeOS, and macOS.

We do not typically service phones, tablets, or other mobile-style devices.

  • Yes. Tarheel Technologies provides virus and malware removal, data recovery, and remote computer support.

We offer a free, no-obligation evaluation for virus/malware problems and data-recovery needs so we can determine what's possible and provide pricing before you commit to anything.

Data recovery starts as low as $60.

Remote support is also available when distance, convenience, or the nature of the problem makes an in-person visit unnecessary. Ask us about remote-support availability and rates.

This is where I combined three of our old questions into one, which buys us two valuable FAQ slots.

  • Yes, within our designated local service areas.

Pickup, delivery, and on-site services are available in Sanford and Carthage, North Carolina. Customers outside those areas are welcome to arrange to meet us in either location for drop-off or pickup.

  • Absolutely. Tarheel Technologies provides custom website design for individuals and businesses looking for a professional online presence without the complexity of building it themselves.

We'll work with you to understand your business, goals, preferred style, content, and functionality and then develop a website around your vision and your budget.

From domain and initial planning through design and launch, we can help guide the entire process. Contact us for a custom website consultation and quote.

I wouldn't put your ~$1,200 average on the FAQ yet. Once we build the dedicated Website Design page, we can decide whether displaying starting prices helps or hurts you.

  • Yes. Tarheel Technologies works with small businesses that need reliable technology support without maintaining a full in-house IT department.

Services can be tailored to the needs of the business and may include computer support, troubleshooting, maintenance, hardware and software assistance, networking, technology planning, and other ongoing IT needs.

We also offer ongoing service agreements for small businesses. Contact us to discuss your organization and learn more about available business-support options.
